I liked the Plant Monster from Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. It's CGI, but it's cool.

The thing is the movie was more focused on the people surviving a monster attack than the monster itself. Most movies have the hero or Army trying to stop it with some sort of plan and some insight on the monster. All we know about it is that it is there.
